Operation Christmas Child asks for help

PIGEON - For the past 25 years, Cross Lutheran in Pigeon has been shipping shoeboxes filled with gifts to children in need around the world through Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. Organizers are asking for your help. “Again this year, we are inviting the entire Thumb area to join us in this rewarding endeavor. Last year, we sent more than 500 boxes! Starting now, we are collecting empty shoeboxes, cash donations for shipping and new filler items like toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, school supplies, clothing and small toys. Donations can be dropped off at Cross Lutheran Church or you can contact Lori Smith at 989 453-3953 by Sunday, Nov. 4. Join us on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at the church‘s combination fellowship hall/gym to help pack the shoebox gifts and prepare them for shipping around the world. You will be blessed!”

Coats for Kids

SEBEWAING - New or gently used coats are being collected for Coats for Kids in Sebewaing now through Thursday, Oct. 18 at Sebewaing Township Library, Luke’s Super Market and Trinity United Methodist Church. Distribution will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Sebewaing. Any questions, please call 989-883-2662 or Trinity United Methodist Church, 989-883-3350.

Caseville food pantry asks for Snowbird help

CASEVILLE - “Snowbirds, as you pack up and leave for the south this fall and winter, please feel free to leave non-perishable food items for pantry clients at the Helping Hands Thrift Shop in the kitchen. The Thrift Shop is open Monday- Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each year, these donations help fill our shelves with items we cannot order from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. We appreciate your generosity!”

Huron County Federation of Women’s Club Convention

CASEVILLE - A Convention of the Huron County Federation of Women’s Clubs will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Caseville Township & City Hall. The Club was organized in 1919 and federated in 1920.

Free Christian music concert, Oct. 7

PIGEON - “Branches Band,” a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based, Christian band will be presenting a free Christian music concert on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Pigeon, 7379 Berne Road in Pigeon. “Branches Band” has played at more than 500 churches in all 50 states and Canada performing hymns and modern songs with guitar, piano, percussion and vocal harmonies.

Domestic Violence Awareness Candlelight Vigil, Oct. 9

BAD AXE - The 2018 Huron County SafePlace Domestic Violence Awareness Candlelight Vigil will be observed on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in front of the Huron County Building in downtown Bad Axe, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Prayer fellowship, Oct. 10

ELKTON - The Elkton Prayer Fellowship will meet Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 9:30 a.m. at The Elkton Missionary Church, 220 N. Main St., Elkton. The guest speaker will be Laurie White, a lifelong Huron County resident and retired social worker. Laurie met Jesus as her personal savior when she was a young child. Her hunger and thirst to know God better has led her on a life-long journey, filled with awe and wonder. Laurie will remind us of how Amazing God is as she shares on the topic: “Stepping into the Supernatural.” (Jeremiah 9:23-24) “This is what the Lord says: ‘Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength, or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the Lord!” The Elkton Prayer Fellowship is an interdenominational fellowship of women and men that meets the second Wednesday of each month, and includes songs of praise, a time of prayer, drinks and snacks. Childcare is provided.

Huron County Historical Society quarterly meeting

PIGEON - The Huron County Historical Society will hold its third 2018 quarterly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 11, hosted by the Pigeon Historical Society at the Arthur J. Woelke Research Center near the Pigeon Farmer’s Market in downtown Pigeon. Building tours will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m. The evening’s program will be: “Scanning Historical Photos and More.” All are welcome to attend.
