Tuscola County woman wins $1 million

LANSING - A Tuscola County woman had the longest weekend of her life after winning $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s $1,000,000 Gems instant game, according to the Michigan Lottery. The player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning ticket at the Speedy Q market, located at 6516 Center St. in Unionville.

“I bought the ticket Friday afternoon, but couldn’t come to Lansing until Tuesday,” said the 52-year-old player. “I was so nervous holding on to it all weekend! It was the longest weekend I’ve ever had!”

The player visited Lottery headquarters on Tuesday, Nov. 28 to claim her big prize. She chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,000, rather than annuity payments totaling $1 million.

With her winnings, she plans to buy a new house, a new car and then save the remainder.

Players have won more than $9 million playing $1,000,000 Gems, which launched in September. Each $10 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $10 up to $1 million. More than $36 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes, 82 $10,000 prizes, and 165 $1,000 prizes.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at 11,000 retailers across the state.

In 2016, Lottery players won nearly $817 million playing instant games.
