THE THUMB — On Thursday, April 21, the Nipissing Chapter of the DAR held a tea to honor the six high school seniors who were chosen by their respective schools as the 2016 Good Citizens. To be chosen, each must exhibit the character traits of service, dependability, leadership, and patriotism.

Daniel Rutkowski from Ubly High School was selected out of the six seniors as the chapter’s representative for state scholarship competition.

“He is an amazingly accomplished young man, outstanding in academics, sports, music, community service, and volunteerism,” said Sarah Gardiner, DAR Nipissing Chapter, Good Citizen Chair. “He has a bright future ahead.”

The Honorable Judge Laura Barnard was the speaker for the evening. She spoke about the responsibility everyone must take to be a “good citizen.” Also in attendance was Christine Richman, of Bloomfield Hills, the DAR state chairman of the Good Citizen committee. Parents of the students also attended.
