Pickup, van collide in Bad Axe, woman goes to hospital

BAD AXE — The Bad Axe Police Department reports that on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at approximately 12:53 p.m, a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by 22-year-old Nicole Swiastyn, Owendale, was traveling south on North Van Dyke near Charlotte Drive.

At that time, a 1999 Dodge van, driven by 52-year-old Annette Kucharczyk, Port Hope, exited the Northgate parking lot and into the path of the Swiastyn vehicle, causing a collision.

The Bad Axe Area Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extricate Kucharczyk from her vehicle. She then was transported to the Huron Medical Center by Huron Central Ambulance.

Swiastyn and her passenger, 23-yearold Jacob Bambach, Bad Axe, complained of pain and soreness, but they both refused medical treatment at the scene.

The vehicles were removed from the scene by Russ’s Towing, Bad Axe.

Kucharczyk told Bad Axe Police Department Officer Zaleski that she did not see the southbound vehicle when she was exiting the parking lot. She was found at fault for the accident.

The Bad Axe Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Bad Axe Area Fire Department, Huron Central Ambulance and the Huron County Sheriff Department.
