Police: Van destroyed by intentionally set firework
Bad Axe Police are looking for the person or persons responsible for a vehicle fire they believe was intentionally ignited using fireworks.
According to a press release from the Bad Axe Police Department, a mini-van parked in a driveway near the W. Irwin Street and Bacon Street intersection was destroyed and the victim's garage was damaged by the blaze, which was reported at 10:32 p.m. Thursday.
Several neighbors were interviewed at the scene by the responding officer, Marc S. Bridson.
One neighbor stated she was in bed and heard a loud bang from what she believed was a firework exploding near her home. She looked out the window and observed a car parked at the end of the victim's driveway and that the van was on fire. The neighbor then saw the vehicle leave the scene at a high rate of speed, the press release states.
Bridson interviewed the victim, Crystal Hind, who stated she had viewed her van about a half hour before the fire, and the vehicle was fine at that time. Hind also stated she had not had any altercations or issues with anyone who might want to damage her property, the press release stated.
The complaint remains under investigation as a possible reckless use of fireworks and malicious destruction of property complaint.
Anyone with information on this complaint is asked to contact Det. Kevin Knoblock at the Bad Axe Police Department by calling 989-269-9242.
