Department of State offices closed Presidents Day

LANSING - Secretary of State Ruth Johnson reminds that all branch offices and the Office of the Great Seal will be closed for Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 20.

Food distribution

BAD AXE - The House of Bread food distribution will be on Saturday, Feb. 25, with vehicle line up at Bad Axe Junior High, 750 South Van Dyke Road (M- 53), Bad Axe. The vehicular line up will go around the back of the junior high school building and the track, and then down Hatchet Lane toward the high school. Bring proof of address (driver’s license or state ID). Volunteers will load goods into vehicles from 9 a.m. till gone, or till 11 a.m. (Other dates; April 28; June 30; Aug. 25; Oct. 27.) Krohn elected a Director on the MTA Board

DELTA CHARTER TOWNSHIP - Oliver Township Supervisor Lawrence Krohn will represent township officials in Huron and Tuscola counties as District 14 Director on the Michigan Townships Association Board of Directors. Krohn was elected to the position by his township peers at a caucus election conducted during the Association’s Annual Educational Conference & Expo, Jan. 25-27, at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center. Serving as a township official is in Krohn’s blood - his father served as Oliver Township treasurer for nearly three decades, from 1939 to 1967. Krohn was first elected township trustee in 1981, until he became supervisor in 1982. He previously served as secretary of the Huron County MTA Chapter, and also is involved in the Knights of Columbus.

Food distribution

PIGEON - A Thumb Breadbasket food distribution will take place at Elkton-Pigeon Bay Port Laker Elementary School, 6436 Pigeon Road (M-142), from 8:30 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays March 10, May 12, July 14, Sept. 8 and Nov 10. Miller: DHS Grant Awarded to Eastern Huron Ambulance Service

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) praised the awarding of a $68,799 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters FY 2011 Grant program to Eastern Huron Ambulance Service in Harbor Beach. EHAS will use this grant for purchasing equipment and training to upgrade their Emergency Medical Technician-Basic service to Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate. EHAS serves 10 townships and the City of Harbor Beach, as well as provides emergency medical services in Huron and Sanilac counties.
