Ubly FFA has two members headed to finals

Nick Hagen, Star Farmer Candidate. Son of Jim & Doreen Hagen of Ubly. UBLY - The Ubly FFA is proud to announce they have two outstanding members in the State Finals for Star State Degree. Darcy Lipskey is in the finals for Diversified Agriculture Placement for Beef and Crop Production Nick Hagen is a Star Farmer finalist for his beef crop operation. Darcy Lipskey is currently serving as the chapter president, region three secretary, and is a state officer candidate. Darcy has attended every contest possible including crops, dairy livestock judging and Ag-sales. Darcy has also earned State winning proficiencies in Beef Placement and Beef Entrepreneurship. In 2010 she was also the state winner for Ag- Entrepreneurship. She attended Washington Leadership Conference in 2010 and was the Greenhand Public Speaking State Champion in 2009. She has also been Ubly Soil Judging Winner four years in a row. Nick Hagen has been an FFA member for six years. He competed in land conservation, livestock judging and meat judging. Nick has also been awarded a State winning Proficiency in Diversified Agricultural Production. Both Darcy and Nick are being honored for their Supervised Agricultural Programs or SAE. Darcy’s SAE is Diversified Agricultural Placement consisting of beef and crop production. She is a finalist because of her substantial record keeping, herd health, equipment, safety nutrition and manure management. Nick Hagen’s SAE is Diversified Agricultural Entrepreneurship consisting of Beef and Crop Production. He also has outstanding record keeping and is making important management decisions.

Darcy Lipskey, Star in Agricultural Placement Candidate. Daughter of Dale & Janet Lipskey of Minden City. Both Darcy and Nick had to submit a lengthy application by December 1st. A committee at the state level selected top 5-6 students in 4 different categories. Those top students were put through an intense, on-site interview with a committee member. The committee then met again and narrowed down the students to the top three in each category. These top students traveled on January 5th to Lansing for yet another interview with the committee. The students will learn the results during the Stars over Michigan Session at the State FFA Convention on March 8th. Winners and finalists will be given a plaque and a prize money check.
