Elkton lotto thief nabbed

HURON COUNTY – A Pigeon man accused of taking money and lottery tickets from an Elkton business was arraigned in District Court last week.

Shane Allen Sprague, 28, of Pigeon, was charged with breaking and entering with intent, larceny in a building and malicious destruction of property in a building. A pretrial hearing in this case was scheduled for this past Monday, while a preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday, November 18.

It is alleged that on Sunday, November 1 a passerby noticed that the glass of Ron’s Party Store was broken out. It was later learned that money and lottery tickets were missing from the store.

Local police worked in conjunction with the Michigan lottery commission on this case and it is alleged that Sprague tried to redeem a stolen lottery ticket, which led to his eventual arrest.
